Governmental Involvement

LOBBYING EFFORTS - Members of the Governmental Affairs Committee regularly attend meetings and/or maintain communication with local municipalities to monitor proposed ordinances and their effect on private property owners. Lobbyists at the state and national level regularly monitor proposed legislation as it relates to private property ownership, as well as legislation affecting the real estate broker/salesperson and his/her rights to do business. They also promote legislation as recommended by members through the Legislative Committee process.

RPAC - The REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) is responsible for the solicitation of funds. These funds finance the national, state and local legislative process. The REALTOR® Political Action Committee is one of the largest political action committees in the country. Its purpose is to support candidates who will best represent the interests of private property owners, and to continually monitor legislation that is introduced at state and national levels.

MAR - The Michigan Association of REALTORS® (MAR) is headquartered at 720 N. Washington Avenue, Lansing, Michigan, 48906. MAR is involved in coordinating the state�s activities in education, public relations, legislation and political affairs. In addition to the monthly publication of the Michigan REALTOR®, MAR also publishes an annual roster of all 23,500 members in the state.

NAR - The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is headquartered at 430 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, 60611. NAR, with 800,000 members, is the largest trade association in the nation and represents all REALTORS® in the country. NAR is responsible for promoting the REALTOR® image, and serving the members in areas of education, public relations, market research data, legal action fund and legislative.
