CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING - ALL GRAR MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE IT IN 2014

NOT ALL REAL ESTATE LICENSEES ARE REALTORS®. There are more than 1.84 million active, licensed real estate agents in the United States. Roughly 1 million are members of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and may call themselves a REALTOR®. The Code of Ethics separates REALTORS® from the crowd of licensees. Through the Code of Ethics, REALTORS® provide consumers with a promise to protect and promote their best interests throughout the entire real estate buying, selling, or investing process. Since buying or selling a home is one of the largest and most important decisions a consumer will make, it is important to have someone on their side who is held to standards higher than state license law.

REQUIRED TRAINING: In light of the fact that the Code of Ethics is a living document that is updated and enhanced regularly to keep current with an ever changing real estate marketplace, the National Association of REALTORS® requires that all members complete a refresher Code of Ethics training course once every four years. All GRAR members complete the training on the same calendar year rotation. Collectively, GRAR members last completed the training in 2010, which means that it is time to update our knowledge of the standards and guiding principles set forth in the Code.

DID YOU KNOW? There have been some significant changes to the Code of Ethics in the last four years with respect to offerings of compensation to cooperating brokers, discrimination issues and protected classes, display of internet content, and more, so even if it wasn't a requirement to complete a refresher course, it would still be an excellent risk reduction practice!

TRAINING OFFERED ON LINE: In order to maintain good standing in the Association, please complete the user-friendly course that is offered online prior to December 31, 2014. There is no cost to complete the online course and you are not required to complete it in one sitting. Meaning, you may start the course, go show a home, and then pick up right where you left off! PLEASE CLICK HERE TO BEGIN. NAR will notify GRAR when you have completed the course.

EXEMPTIONS: If you are a new member who completed New Member Orientation on or after July 1, 2013, you are exempt from the requirement to complete the Code of Ethics training for the reason that you completed the training as part of the new member process. Members who hold REALTOR® Emeritus or Life Membership are also exempt.

The West Michigan Aviation Academy is a tuition-free public charter high school founded by Dick DeVos upon encouragement from wife, Betsy. Stemming from their passion for education and aviation, the school opened its doors in the fall of 2010 and is located on the grounds of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

In the Fall of 2010, 80 Freshmen students were welcomed into a 25,000 sq. ft. renovated office space that served as the first school building on the airport grounds. It wasn't long before expansion plans were on the drafting board. And on the first day of the 2012-2013 school year, over 240 Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors found their high school home in a brand new 42,500 sq. ft. building. The new addition has enabled not only expansion in space, but also in curriculum, student life, and aviation programs. The new building now gives WMAA a capacity to educate 500 students.

Take a tour of this amazing facility and share the information that you receive with your clients, friends, and family members. This is just one more reason why West Michigan is a great place to work, play, and call home!
