BICE CHAPTER – SOUNDS OF SUMMER CELEBRATION

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES – REALTORS GIVING BACK!

GRAR is continuing its partnership with the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans by providing opportunities for real estate professionals to form relationships with the staff and 450+ residents of the Home.  Many of the veterans living at the Home do not have family in the area and they long for social interaction and a sense of community.  This is an excellent opportunity to give back to those who have given so much!

Event:  INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Date:  June 30, 2017

Time:  9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Details:  This is a special time of year at the Home as we celebrate our Nation’s independence and those who have so bravely served our country.  This particular event is the brainchild of our own REALTOR Hank Steffes.  Hank approached the Home last year with the concept of an annual celebration that includes a cook-out, bingo, and music.  He invites you to join him in honoring our nation’s heroes on this special day.  Volunteers are needed to assist with the activities and to laugh and socialize with the Veterans.  Please click on the link provided below to register.  Non-members are welcome too, so please feel free to bring family and friends along.  If bringing guests, please email their names to Brittany Sheets.

Event:  SUMMER CARNIVAL

Date:  July 29, 2017

Time:  11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Details:  A large number of volunteers of all ages are needed to help run 65 booths of food and fun, the petting zoo, carnival activities, and more.  Volunteers are also assigned to a veteran to pick him/her up from the room, spend the afternoon together at the carnival, and deliver back to their room at the end of the day.  Please click on the link provided below to register.  Non-members are welcome too, so please feel free to bring family and friends along.  If bringing guests, please email their names to Brittany Sheets.

Event:  FALL HARVEST

Date:  September 27, 2017

Time:  1:00 to 3:30 p.m.

4TH ANNUAL CO-ED SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

The Young Professionals Network invites you to take part in the fun of its 4th Annual Co-Ed Softball Tournament.  Bring your team, comfortable clothes, and game face to compete against other teams for a trophy and bragging rights.  Proceeds benefit the Burton Elementary Secret Santa Workshop.

MID-CENTURY & HISTORIC HOMES: GRAR is pleased to welcome Aletha VanderMaas of True Home Restorations and Rhonda Baker of the Grand Rapids Historic Preservation Commission. Aletha is the owner of True Home Restorations, a design business focusing on interiors & exteriors of homes built between 1950 and 1975. She will be discussing the inventory in MI for Mid-Century homes, who wants them, and details of these types of homes. Rhonda is a graduate of  Western Michigan University’s Public History program and has worked in the field of preservation for over seventeen years. She was employed as Director for the Historic Preservation Department of South Bend and St. Joseph County Indiana and for the last twelve years has served as the Historic Preservation Specialist for the City of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Rhonda will be discussing historic preservation, the importance of preserving historic homes, and what it means to preserve historic property.
