CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING - ALL GRAR MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE IT IN 2014

NOT ALL REAL ESTATE LICENSEES ARE REALTORS®. There are more than 1.84 million active, licensed real estate agents in the United States. Roughly 1 million are members of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and may call themselves a REALTOR®. The Code of Ethics separates REALTORS® from the crowd of licensees. Through the Code of Ethics, REALTORS® provide consumers with a promise to protect and promote their best interests throughout the entire real estate buying, selling, or investing process. Since buying or selling a home is one of the largest and most important decisions a consumer will make, it is important to have someone on their side who is held to standards higher than state license law.

REQUIRED TRAINING: In light of the fact that the Code of Ethics is a living document that is updated and enhanced regularly to keep current with an ever changing real estate marketplace, the National Association of REALTORS® requires that all members complete a refresher Code of Ethics training course once every four years. All GRAR members complete the training on the same calendar year rotation. Collectively, GRAR members last completed the training in 2010, which means that it is time to update our knowledge of the standards and guiding principles set forth in the Code.

DID YOU KNOW? There have been some significant changes to the Code of Ethics in the last four years with respect to offerings of compensation to cooperating brokers, discrimination issues and protected classes, display of internet content, and more, so even if it wasn't a requirement to complete a refresher course, it would still be an excellent risk reduction practice!

TRAINING OFFERED ON LINE: In order to maintain good standing in the Association, please complete the user-friendly course that is offered online prior to December 31, 2014. There is no cost to complete the online course and you are not required to complete it in one sitting. Meaning, you may start the course, go show a home, and then pick up right where you left off! PLEASE CLICK HERE TO BEGIN. NAR will notify GRAR when you have completed the course.

EXEMPTIONS: If you are a new member who completed New Member Orientation on or after July 1, 2013, you are exempt from the requirement to complete the Code of Ethics training for the reason that you completed the training as part of the new member process. Members who hold REALTOR® Emeritus or Life Membership are also exempt.

We are pleased to announce that the Van Andel Institute has graciously agreed to open its doors once again to GRAR Members for a guided tour of its world-renowned, biomedical research facility. Topics may include: community resources, careers, news and events, opportunities for involvement, attraction of global talent, and more.

Due to the nature of the work that is taking place at the facility, the Institute is only able to host a group of 35. Therefore, we are limiting participation to the first 35 members who submit paid registrations ($5.00 per person) online at http://member.grar.com/member/Event/Evnt_Schd.mac/Default (enter your User ID without the letter G in front and Password when prompted). Since the group size is limited, we are charging a small registration fee to confirm the commitment and insure that we have a good turnout on the day of the event, especially since we anticipate that the event will sell out quickly. The money that is collected via the ticket fees will be donated back to the Institute as an expression of our appreciation for their hospitality, time, and energy.
